A stirring address by Mr Daweh moved business leaders to action toward forming a new corporation with $12,000 capital stock to inaugurate the movement. The Prophosteion banquet drew a hearty response at the Hotel Monroe.
At the Monroe Hotel a diverse 125 guests from ministers, factions, and walks of life gathered for the Dawe Dollar Dinner honoring G Grosvenor Dawe of the Southern Commercial Congress. Victor Barringer presided as toast master as Dawe lauded Southern progress and urged youth to carry forward civic purpose across the South.

Washington May 10 Acting on caucus instruction Democrats pushed two House resolutions to cut 82 000 in employes and reorganize committee clerks to save money. One measure passed easily while the second, creating an assistant clerk for the territories committee, split the party.
Opening session of the missionary convention is held today at the First Methodist Church. Delegates and speakers gather to discuss plans and outreach efforts for the mission.
The State Convention of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Union assembled at the First Methodist church with many visitors from across the state. Miss Belle Bennett arrived from Nashville to join the event as the first meeting of the United Board of Missions. She is to address the conference at 8 o'clock, inviting all Monroe churches to hear her. Delegates include numerous named attendees from Minden, New Orleans, Crowley, Ruston, and other localities. The opening session focused on preliminary work and the gathering runs through Sunday.

Springfield May 10 A. Jack Bass convicted of murdering his wife in Bassville with a house fire and birdshot found in her heart. State evidence showed motive over a planned third child and a staged rescue. The jury sentenced Bass to life imprisonment in the penitentiary.
Rebel forces claim victory as federal troops retreat from Amua Prieta after marching out in an orderly withdrawal. The incident underscores shifting control in the region.
Flash dispatches report rebels fighting with dynamite bombs and heavy losses among federal troops in Saltillo area. General Navarro evacuates Juarez while federal forces abandon Amua Prieta, Mexico, with the garrison marching southwest amid destruction of buildings.
Fire rages through Juarez with rebels surrounding the town and advancing on the Federal garrison. Reinforcements from Casas Grandes move toward the city while Federals fall back from key strongholds. Casualties include four dead and fifteen wounded on the American side as shots cross the river.
A conductor, eyewitness, brings word that fifty six Federals died in a Saltillo engagement with Insurrectos. The Federals were said to have fallen into a trap.
El Paso May 10 Dr Tumga in charge of the Federals hospital says he treated over one hundred wounded Federals with twenty may die. Between the custom house church and jail an estimated thirty five to forty Federals lay dead in the streets. Col Tamboral and Col Manuel Publico are wounded.
Gen Navarro did not flee with the Federal detachment and is believed stationed in the barracks with several hundred men. The grayhaired leader intends a final stand there in hope of holding.
