Searchers spotted wreckage of the Air France passenger plane Golden Clipper floating in the English Channel about 18 miles west north of Boulogne. Six aboard, possible survivors uncertain. boats dispatched from Boulogne to reach the scene as planes continue search.
LE BOURGET France May 9 Four Frenchmen and two Englishmen were believed killed when an Air France tri motor passenger plane disappeared on a Dieppe to New Haven England flight over the English Channel. The craft was sought by air and sea for hours before hope was abandoned.
The post office department announced a new bid call for a daily air mail passenger service from the eastern seaboard to Fort Worth Texas via the southeast. Bids due May 24 may cover Washington to Fort Worth or New York to Fort Worth, with possible Washington as northern terminus and connections to existing lines in Nashville and Chicago.

Samuel Insull, 74, slumps in a county jail hospital in Chicago, unable to post 200000 bail on mail fraud and bankruptcy charges. His son offers tentative support as he awaits government actions.
Nashville May 9. In two cars with a machine gun and an automatic rifle Luke Lea and Luke Lea Jr. were sent to North Carolina to face penalties for bank law violations. The Tennessee supreme court handed them to Sheriff Brown and Deputy Lakey of Asheville as Governor McAlister had ordered. The crowd watched as the Leas left. Lea Sr. faces six to ten years, Lea Jr. must pay 25000 or serve two to four years.
Washington May 9 The army taps a 7.5 million aviation fund to buy 1,000 top fighter planes over three years with bids invited for 80 bombers to be delivered in early 1935. Specifications demand twin engines 200 mph, 10 000 ft ceiling, six hours range and 20 000 ft climb. aircraft to reach 250 mph and 25 000 ft.

Under machine gun fire on Red Mountain in Jefferson County, two black miners were killed and several wounded as officers and strikebreakers fought rioting miners. National Guardsmen were deployed after 24 hours of clashes near the Muscoda and Red ore mines with shots fired into patrols and cars amid chaos in the valley.
