Fire damages Mobile harbor after collision near oil barge

An outbound freighter Prospector collided with a Pure Oil gasoline barge in Mobile harbor early today. The 447-foot ore carrier and the barge caught fire. authorities said no injuries. The barge carried 735,000 gallons of gasoline. Firemen, Coast Guard crews, and city responders battled the blaze for hours. The Prospector reached a berth under its own power. the barge was beached. Two Fredericksburg Police Shot Dead in Ambush

Two Fredericksburg police officers, Sgt. Roy Wright aged 31 and Patrolman W Frank Mines aged 27, were found shot to death near a patrol car at a shopping center. A statewide alert was issued for two men in blood stained clothing. The crime occurred between 3 and 5 36 am EST. Pistols and handcuffs were missing. No burglary evidence at nearby stores. Youth Rewarded For Assisting In Theft Case

LAKE PROVIDENCE Special Mike Davis 13 received a red and reel from Chief Henry Vaughn for aiding in solving a Thursday burglary at the Red Front Bar. He found loot hidden behind hay in an abandoned Riverside Drive house and alerted police, leading to the arrest of Joe Sanders 21 and Cecil Kelly. Sanders drew 18 months in East Carroll Parish prison farm. Kelly remains jailed for age determination.

American servicemen among Viet Nam air disaster victims

Monroe to hold New York bond sale conference
