Mellon Outlines Tax Reform Ahead Of Miss Meet
Secretary Mellon told the Mississippi Bankers Association in Jackson that a lowering of surtax rates and a broad reform of the federal estate tax are likely recommendations for the House Ways and Means Committee next fall. He urged a simple fair tax design to secure the income levy without creating tax avoidance or compliance burdens, noting present laws encourage evasion and are overcomplicated. He warned reform must attract capital to productive business, with the South needing a stable tax system to support industrial growth and railroad expansion.
