A large crowd gathered for Oeland Day of Congress as many visitors arrived this morning Increasing turnout marked by a surge of attendees and a visible rise in participation at the event.
Morning sessions attracted many visitors arriving on Iron Mountain and V S & P trains. Speakers included A E Washburn Bastrop on undeveloped lands, R D McNair USDA on forage crops, and Congressman Ransdell. Evening program featured Prof T H Harris and Edward Wisner on drainage and land reclamation. An auto tour showcased local farm lands. Lectures continue tonight at City School Auditorium with M L Alexander and G.
Grosvenor Dawe of Washington City will be free and every man, woman and child is specially invited to attend. President W. C. Barringer of the Progressive League decides this morning to make the lectures free to all. Mr. Robert P. Cross of the Chicago Land and Irrigation Congress is at the Land Congress. The A. L. & G. exhibits photos of Monroe area farm scenes. A special train to C. W. Phillips plantation leaves at 1:30 tomorrow from the V. S. and P. depot with no fare charged. Citizens invited to go out.

Elmer Bruce attorney for John W Poole vows to battle the murder case after Poole bound over to the Circuit Court without bail for the 1909 Kemper farmhand death. Poole’s wife daughter and son posted bond to testify as thirty farmers signed Elmer Poole’s bond amid ongoing farm search and doubt of further bodies.
In Columbus on May 5 state officials Geo Cretone and I BE Huffman along with T R Avghews A C Lowrey and George B Nye and Senate Sergeant at Arms Diegel pleaded not guilty to bribery charges. The court session branded thirteen in total six legislators and seven others including a murder suspect and several accused of burglary or petty thefts. Trial is set for the week after next for those indicted on bribery charges.
