Dr S O Wilder aged 83 died at his Chatham Louisiana home Thursday at 1 30 am. Funeral at Chatham Methodist church Friday 3 pm Rev Carley to officiate. Survived by two sons Herman and Leon Wilder six daughters and several grandchildren. Born Vienna LA August 12 1856 he served Jackson parish in state legislature 1900 to 1902 practiced medicine locally and held multiple civic roles including postmaster and bank president.

Lake Charles La May 2 The Louisiana Peace Officers association pledged wholehearted cooperation with the incoming state administration of Sam Jones. The group vowed to help make his administration a success, with Sheriff Henry A. Reid delivering the loyalty motion. Griffin T Hawkins spoke on officers being free after the people’s action. Mrs Jones and Forrest Gill marshaled a parade yesterday.

A pretty brunette on the Ile de France waved a handkerchief from the deck as the liner sailed from Staten Island toward an undisclosed war zone. The Louisiana state pardon board in open session heard six new election day slugger appeals after previously considering two. Critics led by District Attorney Hertz opposed action as a crowd watched in the court of appeal chamber. Bittern Loss Announced By Admiralty
London May 2. The Admiralty announced the loss of H M S Bittern a 1109 ton sloop after repeated attacks by enemy aircraft and a fire that could not be extinguished. The crew were transferred to another warship and Bittern was sunk to prevent navigation danger. No casualties reported. The vessel completed in 1938 cost £223668 and was sister ship to Enchantress which carried King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to France in 1958.
