Witt Seeks Monroe City Commissioner Post

Robert S. Witt aged 36 former professional wrestling promoter announced his candidacy for Monroe commissioner of finance in the April 29 Democratic Party primary. He pledges city government change, wage and working condition reviews, and equal treatment for all citizens while stressing independence and adherence to the city charter. Witt and his wife Mary Louise reside at 1410 S Grand with two daughters. He is an Air Force veteran and active in civic groups.

Prisoner Seizes Two Hostages In Jail Escape Bid

In San Jose a prisoner holding a female clerk and a sheriff's deputy at knifepoint attempted to escape from Santa Clara County Jail. Dozens of officers surrounded the two story complex. at least one person was injured and no inmate escaped. The Angela Davis trial was delayed but likely unrelated to the breakout.

Extreme heat and record cold hit U.S. on Monday

The National Weather Service listed McAllen Texas as the day’s hottest spot at 99 degrees excluding Alaska and Hawaii. Havre Montana recorded a low of minus three degrees, marking a sharp contrast in temperatures across the continental states.

Monroe approves second year redevelop plan including flood wall

Monroe City Council gave final approval to the second year redevelopment program and the Ouachita River flood wall project after two public hearings.
