Airplane and train disasters killed 23 people with 14 bodies returned to Mexico City for cremation. Four more missing in Sonora search, while parachuters in Russia and a separate England crash add to the toll.

Major Edward Bowes will be named honorary governor of Louisiana by Gov. James A. Noe as Unit No. 14 performs in Monroe on Sunday and Monday. Noe plans to escort the Bowes unit from Baton Rouge to Monroe. Mayor Arnold Bernstein and Mayor C. C. Bell are named honorary mayors. In Milwaukee Gordon Dionne, who says he is Oliva Dionne’s second cousin, is revealed as father of the quintuplets born to Rose Marie and Rosalie. At birth Rose Marie weighed 5 pounds 3 4 ounces and Rosalie 5 pounds 1 4 ounce.
In a driving rain the fast Philadelphia Express sideswiped a freight near Manor ten miles from Greensburg. Two engineers E F Snyder of Altoona and George Kuhn of Ruffsdale died. Two firemen injured Roy Mitchell and Clair Grove. 78 passengers unharmed aside from bruises. Train wreck forced detour and repairs. cause undetermined though flood waters ruled out.

Deputy Sheriff Chester Stevens of Hall Summit was exonerated by a coroner's jury in the fatal shooting of Andy Aaron 26. Aaron, found without a gun, had allegedly acted disorderly and made a move as if to draw a weapon when ordered from town. Aaron had moved to Coushatta from Deadwood Texas.
President Roosevelt has extended the period for France to negotiate a reciprocal trade treaty with the United States until May 15. If no agreement is reached, France may be deprived of benefits from other U S tariff accords.
Washington reports total receipts of the Townsend organization since January 1934 amount to 951964.09. National secretary R. E. Clements resigned and testified that receipts from 1934 to 1936 totaled 771964.09 before a special house investigating committee.

The Works Progress Administration requests refund of federal funds for four vocational schools in Mississippi. Hopkins told Governor Hugh White the sites at Lumberton Philadelphia Brookhaven and Columbia would train workers and later become textile mills. Work was halted a month ago after approval by WPA officials who were unaware of the planned conversion.

The chamber of commerce voted to appeal to Governor James A Noe to seek such an agreement noting that workers living on the Texas side of the Rodessa oil field but employed in Louisiana pay for two license plates. A Hartley president named to confer with Governor Noe.
