Six people perished in a Sunday blaze in Terenas city, as fire crews battled flames and smoke. Officials report multiple deaths. investigation into cause ongoing with local authorities calling for safety inspections and public warnings.
A Sunday morning blaze at a Washington Heights South club in San Antonio killed six, including James B. Walthall former Texas attorney general, Judge J. B. Webb, Homer Jones, Mrs. Mace Stewart, and Mrs. Cockrell. The frame clubhouse housed guests who fled upstairs via stairs, some leaping to escape the flames. Fire spread rapidly from a basement print store, with bodies identified by dental work. Property loss near 89,000 with 75,000 insurance. fire chief said roof fell as crews dug through ruins. Alexandria reports another fire at Achille Bauer wholesale grocery, loss 85,000 to 90,000, origin unknown.

Washington March 26 The American Federation of Labor calls for a Labor’s World Peace Congress to meet with war delegates in the same city and time to determine peace terms. The assembly would include workers’ representatives to ensure workers’ voices influence postwar conditions and rights. The AFL resolution, adopted in 1974, urges union centers worldwide to appoint delegates.
A century after feudal decline and the rise of the third estate workers gain recognition. Sergeant Ellig of the General Service Infantry opens a permanent recruiting office in Monroe in the Amman building over Chase and Collins drug store. Recruits are sought for all army branches including infantry artillery cavalry engineer corps and signal service. Two assistants will join by week’s end as a large US flag and a blue “Men wanted for the United States Army” banner are displayed.
