Rioting erupts in central Belgrade as protesters denounce Premier Dragisa Cvetkovic after his Vienna trip. Police and soldiers intervene while axis sympathizers clash with students bearing British and American flags. Demonstrations disperse as authorities swarm streets.
Washington reports defense outlays since June 1 totaled 39.177 billion dollars, with 2.511 billion more in British orders. The 7.0 billion dollar aid measure signed by the president signals intensified effort to convert funds into supplies for Britain and the United States. Officials disclose preparation for a large shipment of incendiary weapons and greater logistics to handle the expected flood of defense materials.
In Port Orchard Washington Mary Esther Greenblatt twenty was struck by a speeding car February 1 and woke two weeks later with partial memory. She named the license and a driver. Prosecutor Ralph Purves filed charges of failure to stop and render aid against a Fort Warren Wyoming man who had sold the car before induction into the army on March 6.

Bad weather grounds the RAF as Nazi night raiders and a lone daylight raid strike English towns. a Nazi bomber is shot down over the Thames Estuary.
Four Newark men were arrested in a Manhattan print shop raid on March 6 for conspiracy to manufacture counterfeit one and two cent stamps. Authorities seized 24 stamp negatives, inks, presses and engraving equipment. Bail was set at 2000 each. the group allegedly planned to feed the stamps into the market via grocers at a 70 percent discount. No stamps were printed yet, per James J Maloney, the supervising agent.
Japanese Foreign Minister Yosuke Matsuoka was greeted in Berlin with jubilation over Yugoslavia joining the axis as he prepared talks with Hitler and other leaders. He rode to Bellevue palace after crossing into Germany late last night, amid high-level Nazi reception.
Chicago March 26 President Wheeler McMillen of the National Farm Chemurgic council argued that the United States must produce all military and civilian needs within its borders or nearby to defend the nation. He cited shortages in oils and herbs and urged accelerated new crop research and trial to end foreign dependency and expand crop uses.
Police guards were bolstered at Bethlehem Steel and International Harvester in Chicago after violent clashes as a strike led to injuries and mass unrest. State police cleared Bethlehem entrances while Chicago guards faced gas, overturned cars, and a hospitalizing patrolman. The strike, over an employer dominated union election, prompted ongoing labor actions with security measures in place.

In Pensacola Florida March 2 a naval air station officer said two ensigns Ensign Joseph C Thompson 22 Healdsburg California and Ensign Paul C Brown 22 were arrested in their quarters as a board of inquiry investigates a turnip field crash that fatally decapitated 35 year old Mrs Robert Phillips one of five workers present. The plane swooped low striking her as she tried to run.
Two men were injured in a head on crash on the Monroe end of the new traffic bridge. L. E. Brazier of Natchitoches road West Monroe suffered a fractured shoulder and possible dislocated vertebrae and was in fair condition at St. Francis sanitarium. Oscar Blazier of Trenton street West Monroe had scalp lacerations and facial wounds. Wilmer Delery, driver of the sod loaded Chevrolet truck, escaped injury as the cab was demolished. The 7:30 am crash occurred when Brazier attempted a left turn into Riverfront street and Delery traveling west on Louisville struck the sedan headed toward Monroe. The truck belonged to J. B. DeLouch.

Army engineers expect to brief Congress on flood control for the lower Mississippi valley after receiving the Mississippi river commission report. The $22 million budget plans would fund continued work on main river levees revetments dredging and tributary projects while opposing the Eudora floodway due to local opposition and levee height disputes between Arkansas and Mississippi sides.
Baton Rouge reports demand for skilled labor outstrips supply despite training nearly 300 youths under Louisiana’s apprenticeship plan. Assoc State Labor Director George S. Matson notes most enrollees are already in trades as helpers learners and wage protections are limited. Agreements cover 28 bricklayers 115 carpenters 50 roofers 25 asbestos workers 25 plasterers 25 machinists 100 plumbers and 10 electricians.
