Berlin March 25 The Reichs ballot for the April 10 plebiscite in Austria and the German Reichstag election shows a large circle for yes and a small circle for no. The question asks if voters support the reunion of Austria with the German Reich and the Hitler list. Adolf Hitler is printed in bold.
Governor Richard Leche calls on Louisiana citizens to unleash purchasing power through the summer to boost business. He designates April as Home Improvement month and asks mayors statewide to support the plan, highlighting repairs and purchases like paint, curtains, rugs, furniture and tools.

Charles Ketchell, 34, of 309 Orange street, is in serious condition at St Francis sanitarium with a fractured skull and crushed chest after a Friday morning auto crash on Sterlington road. O C Vaughan, 3306 Gordon avenue, and Owen McMullen, 19, were occupants. McMullen swerved to avoid a dog, the car overturned, Ketchell injured. Ketchell showed slight improvement by Friday morning.
New Orleans reports final plans to submit Governor Richard W. Leche for confirmation as judge of the eastern federal district court of Louisiana. Leche and Mayor Maestri head to Washington for a flood control subcommittee hearing as a new judgeship is created. Earl K. Long could succeed as governor. Also named is J Martian Hamley to succeed Emile Tallien as clerk of the state house.
President Manuel L. Quezon signed the largest public works bill in Philippine history authorizing a long range program of highways schools and hospitals at an estimated expenditure of about 18 million dollars.
President Roosevelt, at his Warm Springs retreat, studies Europe as Hull proposes joint action to remove political refugees from Germany and Austria. He plans a briefing with William C. Bullitt, the American ambassador to Paris, and will meet the returning diplomat during his ten day vacation.
District Attorney Charles P. Sullivan said he would seek a first degree murder indictment against 16 year old Donald F. Carroll Jr for the slaying of his 18 year old sweetheart Charlotte Matthiesen in their Jackson Heights home. Carroll reportedly signed a statement claiming the act was part of a death by own action pact because Matthiesen was pregnant and marriage was impossible due to money issues. He shot the girl after she sat with his revolver and then did not kill himself either due to fear or a last plea to spare him. Autopsy confirmed Matthiesen’s pregnancy.
In Aintree England Battleship son of Man O War wins the Grand National before 250000. Royal Daniels second Workman third as Americans sweep major prizes with Battleship paying 40 to 1 and eight US tickets on the winner.
The United States sold 100 million dollars more in goods abroad than it bought in February, per the commerce department. Exports rose 13 percent from a year earlier while imports fell 4 percent, though both were below January levels. Major gains came in lard, wheat, tobacco, machinery, vehicles, aircraft, and fertilizers.
Agricultural Adjustment Administration reported total payments to Louisiana farmers totaling 7,286,040 through November 1937 as part of the agricultural conservation effort. Nationally payments and admin costs bring the total to 398,250,333 dollars.
