Speed Limit Set For U.S. Airmen

A United States Air Force commander ordered 6000 airmen in Britain not to exceed 30 mph on British roads. The rule comes 24 hours after 18 year old Airman Jimmie Wayne Whittaker of Noble Oklahoma was killed in a crash. A British youth in the car also died and another boy was injured.

Monroe City School Board awards land purchase for new elementary

The Monroe City School Board approved buying just over 20 acres near Benoit Recreation Center at $2,000 per acre for a new elementary school as part of a $6 million bond plan. They opened bids for Phase 2 at Wossman High for a stadium field house with bids near $357,777, and finalized furniture purchases while renewing student insurance.

John Douglas Comeaux 62 of Winnsboro died Monday after a heart attack. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. at Boeuf River Baptist Church with Rev. Meredith Hair and Rev. Earl Mercer officiating. Burial followed at Ogden Cemetery under Mulhearn Funeral Home directing. Comeaux was president of the Franklin Parish Bus Drivers Association.
