Edward L. Doheny, California oil magnate, is acquitted by a nine man jury of bribing former Interior Secretary Albert Fall with 100000 to aid Elk Hills lease. Trial concluded after nine days, jury deliberated 1 hour 5 minutes.
A 24 hour river stage update shows St Louis Memphis Helena Vicksburg Baton Rouge New Orleans Cairo and other towns with stages and small rises or falls. Notable readings include Memphis 28.3 feet rising 0.5 feet and Cairo 84.5 feet falling 0.7 feet.
A Bronx caller reports holding thirteen spades in a bridge hand and that her partner, with no spades, bid aggressively. She hid seven spades while her partner hid eight clubs, then confusion over playable cards led to the humorous collapse of the hand.
Two men said they were being forced on a ride by three gangsters when the gangsters crashed into a traffic booth in Columbus Circle. Patrolman John Grady recovered from the wreck and helped subdue one kidnapper, identified as George Mott known as Red Hope, who had just been released from Sing Sing after a 10 year robbery sentence. One accomplice escaped.
St Louis March 22 The W C T U calls for Henry Schroeder to resign from the city school board after he ordered five cases of Budweiser beer from Anheuser Busch Inc to be filled when light wines and beer are legalized by a change in the Volstead act. Schroeder was accused of disrespect and ignorance of constitutional procedure at a W C T U meeting last night.

In Chicago on March 22 the federal court reviews if Harry Diamond who was executed in 1924 for murdering his wife died by accident. His family seeks $12,648 from a life policy claiming he was strapped to a chair and shocked by electricity against his will, an argument submitted by Walter Bachrach to Judge Charles Woodward.
J P Barber a former high school football star was captured in Kentucky on a tip and is being returned to Batesville Arkansas to face murder charges in the death of Maurice Osborne at Cord. Barber and Mrs Norma Osborne widow of the slain man were indicted on first degree murder charges.

New Orleans charity hospital will get 500000 from the estate of Mrs Corinne Lapeyre Miltenberger to fund a convalescent home. Miltenberger died in Washington March 8, she was a New Orleans native. Estate totals 1500000. Hospital board chairman Fred W Matthews said no benefit will arise for about a year while the estate settles and interest may accumulate since 500000 is not enough for a sizable convalescent home.
E S Richardson Webster Parish superintendent told the North Louisiana Superintendents and Principles conference that current grading systems fail to measure a teacher's true ability. He urged a broader standard that connects training with actual classroom effectiveness and the ability to arouse student interest.
In Ringgold, detectives recovered all but $18 of over $8,000 stolen when two bandits raided the Ringgold bank Monday. Sheriff J. E. Currie found the money hidden in a stump about ten miles from Ringgold, near where the robbers are believed to have changed clothes. Two men are in custody, William O Neal of Shreveport identified as a bandit, and Henry T Prudhomme of Shreveport considered an accessory.

Wilson T. Peterman longtime Louisiana public affairs figure died at his Franklin home at 8 30 this morning after a long illness. He served as sheriff of St Mary Parish and later as chairman of the Louisiana highway commission guiding road policy. Peterman also engaged in cypress manufacturing with his brother J A Peterman and once ran for Congress during the Roosevelt Bull Moose era in 1912 but was defeated by Whit P Martin.
Federal Judge Wayne G. Borah suspended or reduced sentences for several jitney law violators in New Orleans. Ralph Waterminer a high school student received a suspended sentence after claiming only one or two loads. William Masean was spared jail per a doctor’s certificate citing health concerns. Joseph Caparo pled guilty and drew 30 days, aided by a plea for a sick baby from his wife. Eight others also pleaded guilty and received 30-day terms.
In Chicago on March 22 Margaret Black a 26 year old jobless woman from Atlanta wrote a $10 bad check. James T Dale cashed it and she was arrested. Judge Erickson dismissed the charge and the court collected $10 to cover the check then Dale gave the money back to Miss Black.
Wilbur Schoetts tried to revive waning guests by setting off a fire alarm at his party in Chicago. He explained to Judge Jonas that the bells would lift spirits. The judge sentenced him to six months probation.
At Cypress near Shreveport a car skid on a locked brake and plunged into a ditch killing directress Miss Margaret Hegberg and injuring two others in Alexandria. In Ruston a car struck by Illinois Central No. 208 killed John Willie Saint and later died Luther Hedgpath. Three other occupants were injured including Leaves Holloway.
Surveys will begin immediately for a new natural gas line in Louisiana. United Gas plans to supply southwest towns from northeast Louisiana fields. A V Miller, manager of Southern Gas line, cites a 160 mile main line costing 3 to 4 million dollars. H H Reardon and other executives accompanied the group.
Baton Rouge reports the death of Wilson T. Peterman at 8:30 am in Franklin. Peterman, longtime leader in Louisiana public life, formerly chaired the state's highway commission and had suffered prolonged illness.
An army captain and two civilian chemists were killed in an explosion during smokeless powder experiments at the Prestiany Army Reservation near Dover New Jersey. The victims were Captain John B. Fidlar 38 Stephen D Peevy and Frank Stevens Jr Three others were slightly injured.
In Chicago on March 22 Willis Browney known as a baggage smasher practiced his trade at home dragging trunks to his doorstep and tossing them about for practice. His wife Mrs Bronney testified he loved the work and began dropping trunks on her toes leading to a divorce granted yesterday by Judge Sabath.
