The census bureau reports the 1920 cotton crop was the sixth largest in U. S. history, with Louisiana producing 388 655 bales and Mississippi 897 733 bales ginned. Total ginnings reached 13 197 775 running bales, about 13 365 750 500‑pound bales.
Ouachita parish grand jury organized this morning with R Downes Jr named foreman. Members include Geo G Green James B R Tidwell H G Prophit A A Thom an J D Heflin John M Myers Guy P Stubbs G B Cooley J E Lockwood F H Heard E O Smith. Debris from the Armour grain company elevator blast on the south side is being cleared. Four victims are believed buried under wreckage with two confirmed dead. Officials cite spontaneous combustion igniting flammable mill dust as the suspected cause.
Washington March 21 The strawberry market reporting station opened at Hammond Louisiana by Leon Miller of the bureau of markets. The station will operate about forty days. Government reports show the southern strawberry crop entering the market three weeks earlier than usual.
U S Treasury officials say there is no record of the United States owing France any money from loans in the revolutionary war. The claim emerged after Paris paper Le Paris Eclair cited Jean Bernard asserting a 90 billion franc debt owed to France for aid, counter to France owing the U S 3 billion for World War loans. Officials stressed no unpaid balances appear in available records.
F L Whitman national field representative of the American Legion will address Monroe on April 14 on the aims of the Legion. His talk comes under Leonidas Barkdull Faulk Post, which is running a membership drive amid about 500 eligible ex service men in the area. The post aims to become a strong local force advocating the principles the veterans defended in the great war.
Baton Rouge reports at the start of week four of the seventy five day constitutional convention show delegates intent on crafting a lasting document grounded in right and justice. Bill Richardson, a Monroe fire department member, was arrested in Cleveland Mississippi on burglary charges last Friday. He was taken back to his hometown by the Cleveland sheriff and later exonerated, with the charge withdrawn after his innocence was proven. He resumed his duties in Monroe on the next train.
Ouachita parish farmers gathered at the Monroe Chamber of Commerce to study forming a cow testing association and to assess if local cows meet the American Jersey Cattle Club merit standards. Louisiana dairy specialist C. H. Staples led the discussions.
J. M. Collins deputy collector of internal revenue leaves city and will not return until April 15. Taxpayers should mail sales beverages and miscellaneous payments to the collector's office in New Orleans. Taxes must reach the office before month end.

General Leroni warned Entente forces would quickly counter any Polish attempt to challenge the decision or the Paris council actions.
N Kalil and Son leased to EB S Vawter the store building under construction in square twenty eight Springer Hubbard and Springer addition adjoining the store now used by Kalil and Son. The 18 foot store west of the one now occupied is included. The lease runs three years from completion at a rate of $90 per month.
Andrew Caldwell known as Sleepy, a negro, was seized by Deputy Milton Coverdale and Officer W L Lacy in West Monroe for stealing goods from Millsaps and Company worth fifteen dollars. He climbed a river bank and broke in through a window, dropping nineteen suits of underwear before being caught. he confessed to the robbery.
The Rogers number one gasser near El Dorado was struck by lightning March 11 and extinguished using steam and water. It is now an oil well producing seven to eight thousand barrels daily, with oil shooting hundreds of feet and spraying nearby lands. The well had emitted about thirty million cubic feet of gas daily, and its transformation aids the field by reducing excess gas.
