A woman from the Twin Cities area sees a farm south of Monroe named Cat Farm and offers to donate 19 of her cats to stock the enterprise after tallying her pets at home. The farm foreman politely declines the offer, explaining the farm is for cats already in residence.
Ouachita parish registrar of voters Mrs Mae Lucky announced the city registration books close to Monroe residents after Saturday under state law and 30 days before the city bond election in April. Open registration remains for all other Ouachita parish voters.

An early morning explosion at the Merck and Co vitamin laboratory in Linden New Jersey killed three workers and injured eleven others. All victims worked on the first floor of a three story building where flammable solvents ignited. Names of the dead were Walter Green Ed Centrowski and Edward L Muisch. Leo Bitsch sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. Ten others received minor injuries. The blast caused extensive first floor damage and was the plant's first fatal accident since 1947.
A Shreveport bus driver, J. B. Rich, said Negro passengers booed him after he asked a Negro couple to leave the front seat of a segregated bus to make room for a white passenger. The 25 Negroes and two whites on board caused the seating issue during a routine pickup.
