Monroe voters defeat gas purchase bond by wide margin
In Monroe the bond issue to buy and operate Pennzoil United gas facilities failed 3 946 to 1 858 amid very light turnout. About 5 804 of roughly 24 000 eligible voters cast ballots as wards reported strong opposition in most precincts. The city will not pursue another purchase until the United contract ends in 1972.
