Burglars struck the Italian Village at 2401 Louisville Avenue during the weekend, stealing about 250 from a rear window cash drawer and 150 from the bar plus 100 in ones, plus liquor. The loss totals near 500, with some damage and partial insurance coverage noted. The incident time spans between Saturday midnight and Sunday morning.

Connie Nicholas told reporters she would rather face the electric chair than a life prison term for killing her married lover outside his younger girlfriend's apartment. She spoke during a recess on the murder trial's second day. The defense protested when Bessie Oberting was removed for expressing that Nicholas should testify.
A Ventura jury found Elizabeth Duncan guilty of first degree murder in the kidnapping style plot to kill her daughter in law Olga Duncan. The verdict brings a possible death sentence or life imprisonment while Duncan pursues a sanity plea before sentencing.
Frank Duncan testified his mother Mrs. Duncan could not have harmed Olga as prosecutors allege. The case centers on Mrs. Duncan accused of paying Baldonado and Moya to abduct, strangle, and bury Olga near Santa Barbara last November. Both alleged conspirators confessed and led police to the grave, awaiting trial on insanity pleas.
Capt. E B Hart in charge of Marine recruiting for Louisiana will be the principal speaker at the North Monroe Lions Club meeting at 7 30 p m today. The event takes place at Saddle and Spur Restaurant on Louisville Avenue. Hart a 17 year Marine veteran has seen combat in World War II and Korea and holds multiple awards including the Presidential Citation.
The Ouachita Teachers Association and Ouachita Parish Classroom Teachers Association plan a joint banquet. Details continue on page A.
Gov Earl Long said organized labor in Louisiana does not need help from James Hoffa after Hoffa spoke to an independent union at Esso refinery in Baton Rouge. He backed Victor Bussie as a respected local leader and opposed Hoffa as a bargaining agent for Louisiana workers.
A 34-year-old father Gerald Ray Glass and his two children Arlene, 8, and Jerry, 10, were found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in a car near Homewood Alabama. Coroner James O Butler said the deaths likely occurred within 15 minutes of the last log entries which described talk of God and heaven. The father killed the children and then himself about two hours after leaving home on Sunday.

The Secret Service warns of a man who has threatened to kill President Eisenhower. The suspect, a dishonorably discharged veteran, alcoholic drifter, prison inmate and former mental hospital patient, is described in testimony to the House Appropriations Committee.
The Draper committee, led by William H. Draper Jr., urged President Eisenhower to boost the 1960 foreign military aid request by 400 million dollars to fund NATO weapons programs. It said spending next year would largely hold, but suggested higher costs in 1961 due to global tension.

In Cairo the Soviet premier and Egypt’s president exchange sharp accusations over influence in Iraq. Khrushchev backs Kassem regime and loans to Iraq while Nasser denounces Moscow's support for communism and asserts Arab will. The rift follows the July 14 Iraqi revolt and pan Arab unity tensions.
