The French high command says about 800 paratroopers jumped through heavy anti aircraft fire to reinforce Dien Bien Phu, raising the garrison to about 10 000 on duty. Transports arrived from bases across the Red River delta while air cover and artillery targeted Viet Minh positions.
A four-vehicle collision at the Washington and North 4th streets intersection Tuesday night left four injured including one in critical condition. Police cited an out-of-order traffic signal as the cause as drivers gave conflicting accounts of the light. Several patients remained at St. Francis hospital Wednesday.

Observers and island residents were exposed to radiation. no casualties were reported. The blast’s effects included a 28 mile fire ball and a 90 000 foot mushroom cloud with widespread atmospheric impact.
Sen. McCarthy of Wisconsin says Army lawyers should cross-examine him under oath during the probe into pressure for favorable treatment of G David Schine. He suggests a special cross-examination rule for this investigation while Mundt leads the hearings with a temporary staff of two lawyers and three investigators.

Nine Monroe youths aged 14 to 16 were placed in their parents custody after juvenile court proceedings related to a spree of thefts vandalism and burglaries in the Selman Field area. Police said they were arrested separately on Monday and Tuesday with stolen items found in a parked car near Selman Field school. Seven youths admitted vandalizing the Progressive Men's Club at Selman Field causing about 700 in damages.
