The Louisiana Federation of Music Clubs begins its 23rd annual convention at the Virginia Hotel with about 60 members from across the state. WASHINGTON Three Louisianians nominated by President Truman for postmasterships have been approved by the Senate. They are Travis E. Albritton Farmerville Ashton Lafargue Keithville and Huey G Ragus Pioneer.

Two men Joseph W Hofler and James Lewis Foster pleaded guilty to theft of items worth 137 75 from Star Hardware and Furniture Store reported February 28 Judge David J Garrett also heard guilty pleas by Carl J Pettis for disturbing the peace Louis Calvin Parker negligent injuring Lavelle Taylor reckless operation of a vehicle and Zembra West for operating a vehicle under the influence no license and improper lights proceedings noted John Elmendorf continued on page seven
An Air Force C-47 cargo plane based at Moody AFB Valdosta Georgia caught fire midair and crashed into a pine thicket near Bay Minette Alabama. Six of seven crewmen died. one lieutenant parachuted clear with a scorched chute and survived. Lt H H Howell was later rescued with minor injuries.
AP reports no UN plan for an ultimatum in Korea. Brig. Gen. Nuckols dismisses the idea as absurd while noting stalemates since talks began last July and the need for more divisions to push Communist forces back toward the Yalu River.
Mrs. M. M. Scheid National Congress of Parents and Teachers representative told district leaders the PTA aims to bring parents and teachers closer. She described a two day leadership training for PTA officers and explained local state and national operations. The organization seeks child welfare, leadership training, and parent teacher education.
Mrs. Moses H. Lurie of Belmont Mass director of the League of Women Voters of the United States will visit the local league over the weekend. She will meet with board members unit leaders and chairmen at a Bayou De Siard Country Club luncheon. Lurie has long led league work including presidencies at local and state levels and serves on several civic boards.
Washington reports two major disputes slow action on President Truman’s 7.9 billion dollar foreign aid plan. Debates center on whether Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower should fly from Europe to testify and on procedural issues over joint versus separate hearings. Harriman was summoned to testify as leaders urged full funding to counter communism.
In Holly Springs Mississippi a farmhouse fire at Hudsonville killed Lula Mae Byrd 45 an invalid Corene Rhea 3 and Catherine Rhea 5 daughters of Casey and Mrs Rhea. Curtis Skelton 35 was badly burned and treated at North Mississippi Hospital after Casey Rhea said an attempt to start the fire with tractor fuel caused an explosion and smoke trapped the children while he escaped through a window.
Moscow reports Stalin prizes awarded to Artem Mikoyan and Mikhail Gurevich for the MIG series and 16 others. Mikoyan and Gurevich earlier won Stalin prizes for MIG 9 and MIG 15 with a total 13.35 million rubles awarded for inventions and discoveries across science and industry.
C A Donnelly Louisiana revenue collector announces that the deadline for federal income tax payments is extended to Monday March 17 because March 15 falls on a Saturday. Tax payments mailed must be postmarked before midnight March 1 to count as on time.
A Washington report notes the Office of Price Stabilization set price ceilings on horsemeat for animal feed and some human foods. Officials say federally inspected horsemeat is acceptable for human consumption, but horsemeat not marked for interstate sale may escape federal scrutiny and pose health risks if produced under substandard sanitary conditions.
Washington AP President Truman's plan to reorganize the Internal Revenue Bureau becomes law at midnight. The Senate approved 53 to 37 after debate, ending political patronage in selecting collectors. Officials say the move aims to erase corruption and will take effect within a year with acting heads named immediately.
Prisoner exchange talks near a dead end in Munsan with Rear Adm Libby saying progress will be extremely slow. The Communists promise to think it over and may reply tomorrow as staff officers are asked to crack the deadlock on voluntary repatriation.
A Rosary service for William J. Rimes seven will be held at 2905 DeSiard street Friday at 8 p.m. A requiem mass will follow at St Matthew's Church Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment is in St Matthew's cemetery under Mulhearn Funeral Home direction. Survivors include his wife two sons a daughter a brother and a sister plus a grandson and several nieces.

In Laurel Mississippi a jury deadlocked over the case of Lula Campbell a schoolteacher charged with murder for the December 31 shooting of her husband O D Campbell 45 The defense says she acted to protect her adopted son while the state cites a death bed statement and a drunken slapping incident as factors delaying verdict deliberations.
Hollywood star Rita Hayworth and Kirk Douglas shared a table at Ciros after a flashbulb session. Hayworth asked photographers to stop, noting it was her first public date since filing for divorce from Prince Aly Khan. Douglas and his wife Diana Dill were divorced in 1950 with a final decree in February.
