Missouri Pacific begins building a new loading platform at Twentieth and Grammont with dimensions about 20 by 40 feet. It will handle five cars at a time and add facilities near Monroe, alongside the existing platform near the Missouri Pacific freight depot. Commercial Agent C W Mitchell notes city eastward growth and nearby Illinois Central gate platform added earlier in 1027 to handle shipments.

Washington March 12 Commissioner Charles H Burke of the Bureau of Indian Affairs has tendered his resignation and it was indicated today the president would accept. Burke had faced congressional fire over an investigation into the bureau and said he would serve until a successor is appointed. He had earlier accused lawmakers of trying to oust him but later withdrew that claim.

Louisiana penitentiary officials said they had been informed that two fugitives from the state penitentiary were recaptured near Baton Rouge after their escape.

Two previously escaped inmates Sam Thomas Sherman also known as H Scotland of Caddo parish and Batchelor Hayes of Rapides parish were recaptured. Sherman detained in Houston after a San Antonio theft arrest. he fled on August 29 1928 after six months of a two to six year embezzlement term. Hayes identified by fingerprints in Louisville after vagrancy arrest. he escaped in August 1914 during a 14 year burglary and larceny sentence and after 1924 Texas recapture escaped again on December 1 1928.
