Private Winston Gant of Shelbyville Tennessee was killed when an Army bomber crashed 49 miles south of New Orleans. Lieutenant Donald W. Lang of Nebraska and Wilson Moore of Fort Worth Texas were rescued after bailing out, aided by pilot Ken Oliver of Houma Louisiana who evacuated them to New Orleans.
