Tragic Train Car Collision Claims Eight Lives
Eight people died when a station wagon carrying Mrs. Whitaker and six children was struck broadside by a passenger train near Berlin Connecticut. The crash scattered debris along the tracks and officials called it the worst traffic tragedy in state history. The victims included Patricia Heanure 14 Maryanne DeCruze 12 Byron Batle 6 Doris Gomez 5 and a 7-year-old Shelton. Mrs Whitaker and the children were en route to school after a flat tire delayed them. Gov Ribicoff termed it a grave tragedy and investigators were ordered by state authorities.

In Salisbury six Livingstone College students were seated at three downtown drug stores with four others refused service. in Bluefield 60 showed at the Colonial Theater for late and afternoon pickets.
