Fire destroys Kil’s Grocery and adjacent buildings in Monroe
A morning blaze at 12 30 destroyed Kil’s Grocery Store owned by L B Kilpatrick and the Danna building housing the shop and a residence. The Danna banana house and adjacent dwellings also burned with total losses estimated around ten thousand dollars and insurance totaling about eight thousand. Kilpatrick and wife escaped while visiting relatives.

Building committee to plan orphanage cottages near Monroe
The Louisiana State Baptist Orphanage committee meets in Monroe next Tuesday to finalize plans for four cottages on Kansas plantation four miles east of the city. Attending are Monroe Shreveport and Lake Charles Baptists as $76,000 in the bank at Shreveport funds three cottages and a $25,000 drive in Monroe for a fourth. Work may begin immediately to have cottages ready when the school opens and to relocate the Lake Charles institution to Monroe. Each cottage houses thirty five children plus administration and school staff in this first Louisiana use of cottage housing for inmates.

Three West Monroe homes burned in daytime fire
Three residences on Ludwig avenue in West Monroe were destroyed by fire of unknown origin between 4 and 4:30 yesterday afternoon. Fire Chief Frank J. Roddy’s Monroe department aided by West Monroe and river-side crews confined the blaze to the Mills and Armstrong houses. The Reeves house is cited as the origin, with heavy loss of furniture and several rooms burned in the Mills cottages built in 1912. Armistice? Respective values placed at about $3,000 each with similar insurance.
