Pearl S Buck, Nobel and Pulitzer prize winning author, died at her Danby Vermont home at about 7 25 a m She was 80 Born June 6 1892 in West Virginia Buck grew up in China and spoke Chinese before English She won the Pulitzer Prize in 1932 for The Good Earth and the Nobel Prize in 1938, the first American woman to win the prize Her death followed a year of ill health with gall bladder surgery last fall and pleurisy earlier Buck's funeral will be private and not held in Vermont

Commissioner H W McSherry announced the five member airport authority appointments M Lebron Sneed Whitey White Ray Oliver Wright the Rev Stephen Holzhalb and Howard E Rivers The Monroe City Council approved Feb 13 creating the panel which will manage leases and staffing for the municipal airport while remaining under council oversight and excluding the Industrial Park from its reach.

Replace Deductions With Tax Credits, Wurf Tells Congress
