President Wilson aims to arm American merchant ships despite Senate inaction on authority. An executive decision on legality of arming ships without specific authorization is awaited. A possible extra session before July 1 to pass appropriations or amend rules for prompt action on armed neutrality is anticipated. Columbus hosts the third annual Safety Exposition promoting accident prevention and life saving in mines factories and railroads.

Hoboken March 6 The arrest of Fritz Kolb a German suspect in a plot to aid Germany by destroying American munition plants is announced Police found two bombs in Kolbs room and say the case may link to the Black Tom and Kingland explosions as authorities pursue further leads with New York Police and port officials cooperation
Associated Press dispatch notes two sectors active on the Franco Belgian front with British advances in the Somme region. Reports say Perlin repulsed the British near Bouchavennes and German efforts near Courieres wood north of Verdun were repulsed. Berlin says Russians were repulsed near Breezany and in the Kelemen mountains.
The Imferetate Commission decides that Southern Pacific may keep possession of its steamship lines between New York New Orleans and Galveston if the company corrects certain objectionable practices.
New York March 6 Associated Press reports Hanador Chakraberty a Hindu physician and Dr Ernest Schunner a German have been arrested on charges of conspiring to mount a military expedition against a nation friendly to the United States. Police say they confessed plotting under Wolf von Ingel to invade India via China.
A 1917 document shows U S officials discussing cotton farming aid while Senator Martin of Virginia is named Senate majority leader. The letter references Mr Taylor of Riverton La and a potential three man assignment in Alabama with monthly pay of 150 dollars, to begin March 1 and run to August 1, with duties in district agent style across counties.
The success of Mr. J. O. Taylor who operated a portion of Ingleside plantation last year endive the season with a big profit is well known locally and has been the subject of much comment and it seems now his work has attracted the attention of the community.
