Washington witnessed stirring ceremonies and scenes as officials gathered for a notable day. Attendees included prominent figures and observers, marking a symbolic moment in the capital.
President Woodrow Wilson takes the oath to become the 28th president with Vice President Thomas Marshall amid formal ceremonies. The day features a controlled program, parades, and arrivals of officials, with Taft signing final bills before noon and a grand escort through Washington.
The House, after repassing the sundry civil appropriation bill over President Taft's veto, adjourned sine die at 12:04. All other appropriation bills were approved.
Washington says the new administration prompts a four week lead time before Congress convenes for an extra session. Fire at 3 o'clock Sunday morning destroyed a leading Farmerville business block causing losses over 45000. The blaze started in the W J Turnage storehouse. New brick buildings will be erected at the site promptly.
