Authorine Lucy a 24 year old Birmingham Negro coed was expelled from the University of Alabama for unproved charges that officials conspired in mob action. Trustees confirmed the action after a meeting last night though no official board statement was issued. The move followed a judge ordering readmission for safety reasons and came as NAACP officials reacted with surprise and sought Thurgood Marshall.

Youth Arrested After Thefts At West Monroe Service Station
Stanley E Fletcher, 17, of West Monroe was caught burglarizing a West Monroe service station at 12 50 am by West Monroe police and the sheriff s department. Station owner Bill Barney said about 100 gallons of gasoline a week had been stolen for months. Thieves entered by a back window started pumps filled cars and took oil but did not touch cash registers or tools. Fletcher was questioned at the sheriff s office with no charges filed yet. Barney expected the arrest to stop the thefts.
