Japan presses south toward Canton in China drive
Japanese forces in China have cut the Hankow to Canton line and closed the Hengyang rail hub while landing near an American air base. The loss of rail junctions complicates Chinese supply routes and links fronts 1300 miles apart, as Myitkyina and Kunming remain critical for air lift and the hump route. Allied effort focuses on keeping China supply lines and press toward a China landing.
