Reported violent German attacks persist in the Roan region with clashes near Dradman’s Hill. Eyewitnesses describe ongoing artillery and small arms fire causing casualties. Authorities urge caution and emphasize irregular front lines.
Premier Lloyd George declares Germany adopts tactics that threaten the end of Great Britain. Reports say violent German attacks continue in the Ver region with incursions near Deadman's Hill and the Aisne front. British and French forces report trench losses and limited advances around the Souchez and Lens area.

George McNeal a twenty two year old Negro is the first slacker arrested in Ouachita parish and turned over to Federal authorities. Police say several men were taken into custody but released except McNeal who is confined in the parish jail. McNeal has a police record including a theft conviction and a two year eight month penitentiary term.
An head on collision between two Sea board Airline freight trains near Franklinton North Carolina killed four trainmen and seriously injured two others. The wreck ignited a blaze destroying twenty seven cars of vegetables and other inflammable goods.
The Senate Finance committee approved a war revenue bill with graduated excess profits taxes on corporations partnerships and individuals ranging from 12 to 40 percent and estimated to raise 7230 million dollars.
Paris reports the armored cruiser Kleber struck a mine Wednesday and sank off Point St. Mathieu while en route from Dakar to Brest. Three officers and thirty men were lost in the disaster.
J W Davis pleaded guilty in district court to breaking into and robbing Bradley Hardware Co on February 23. He was sentenced to five years in the penitentiary by Judge Ben C Dewkins. A companion named Jones claims innocence and is jailed. Davis was moved to the penitentiary by Sheriff Arthur Grant after arrest in Carmi Illinois. Evidence tied the new Smith and Wesson pistol to the Bradley Hardware Co and to articles found at Davis's possession. Davis initially denied guilt then pleaded guilty.
A session of the legislature will convene on Monday July 9 for a twenty day term. The general assembly plans to address pending measures and legislative business during this period.
Gov. J. Ruffin G. Pleasant calls an extraordinary Louisiana General Assembly session at Baton Rouge from July 2 to July 28, 1917. Preparations cover article 2252 civil code changes, exemptions for mortgage charges, creation of state defense council, a state constabulary corps, voting rights for service members, and protection for National Guard and U S troops in state.
