Fire Destroys C. McHenry Home in Monroe

A mid morning fire destroyed the two story residence at 1203 Fairview Drive Monroe leaving only the frame. Fire Chief Charles Roddy said the upstairs blaze spread through the second and first floors around 10 30 a m Five units responded no injuries were reported The owner Mrs C H McHenry granddaughter and an employee were outside the home Three portraits were recovered from the scene The house had been moved after the 1927 flood and later expanded Fire crews began cleanup before noon Cause remains undetermined at press time

FBI Report Shows Violent Crime Rise in Early 1973

The Justice Department said violent crime rose 6 percent in the first quarter of 1973 while property crime fell 2 percent. Overall serious crime declined 1 percent due to a methodological change. without it the rate would have risen 1 percent.

Four Offshore Oil Lease Bids Rejected in Sale

Chance Of Rain For Twin Cities And Monroe Area

A slight chance of rain is forecast for the Twin Cities with partly cloudy skies in Monroe and vicinity.
