Cotton Reduction Plan Gains Favor in Ouachita Parish
The federal cotton reduction plan finds ready approval in Ouachita Parish as agricultural agent E. R. Strahan reports over half the farmers attended meetings. Volunteers collect acreage contracts for retirements of 25 to 50 percent, with blanks expected from Washington. Cotton Surplus Must Be Faced
A June 29 report from University Station Baton Rouge outlines two key facts for cotton farmers: a projected 12 million bale carryover by August 1, 1933 and a likely average or higher crop this year. It argues that reducing acreage under the Agricultural Adjustment Act is needed, with about 10 million acres retired, requiring farmer cooperation and shared profits.
