The annual Girl Scout summer day camp begins Monday at Pine Wood Union parish, marking the first of two 10 day sessions for the Silver Waters encampment. Buses will depart from High-
Carroll County 4-H youths and two leaders will visit Franklin Parish from Winnsboro, arriving Sunday evening. They will stay with host families, tour Monroe and Bernstein Park, visit Baton Rouge and LSU, and attend a farewell party at the VFW home.
A group described as the first reverse freedom riders from northeast Louisiana left Monroe late Wednesday night in a bus bound for Los Angeles. Hazel Jackson and her five children from Lake Providence received transportation and cash from the Lake Citizens' Council. J. R. Dillard said the family, including children up to two years old, planned to depart Monroe on a 1:16 p.m. bus but did not arrive on time.
Five Northeast Louisiana contestants vie for Miss Louisiana in the Miss USA preliminaries at Pontchartrain Beach. Glenwood Hospital medical staff of about 75 doctors will meet at 7 p.m. today to elect officers and form major committees. Opening date remains uncertain, with paving of driveways and parking areas delaying the facility, and August has been mentioned as a possible opening month.
J S Eagles announced the annual Eagles family reunion will be held Sunday July 8 at Shady Acres camp on Saline Lake. Eagles 84 is the lone surviving of nine siblings from Cedar Creek Winn Parish, settled in 1858 after moving from Fort Trenton West Monroe.
Actress Susan Kohner called off her wedding plans with actor George Hamilton. The couple had slated a August 12 ceremony. Kohner, 25, returned Hamilton’s wedding ring and he left town for an engagement, having just acquired a substantial Beverly Hills estate.

The State Board of Registration released a monthly report detailing voter registration counts in northeast Louisiana. Ouachita leads with 25 743 registrations, followed by Winn 7 632 and Union 6 568, with multiple parishes such as Jackson 5 955, LaSalle 5 158, Morehouse 5 674, and Concordia 4 516 also listed.
A wind and electrical storm struck Ferriday at 8 30 p m causing about 30 minutes of power outages in Ferriday and Vidalia. Heavy rain accompanied the storm as several trees were blown down and transformers were knocked out. Power was restored shortly after 9 p m in both cities.
The Alabama Legislature on Wednesday unanimously approved a resolution denouncing the Supreme Court ban on compulsory school prayers as a diabolical departure from the American way of life. It urged Congress to pass a constitutional amendment to override the decision and guarantee prayer in schools.
