Judge Charles Schulze 81 veteran official and civic leader, died Sunday at his daughter’s home 106 Grayling Lane Monroe from a heart attack after a Saturday evening of dominoes. Funeral Wednesday at 5 pm at the residence, Mulhearn Funeral Home in charge. Survived by five children, a sister and half brother. Born Donaldsonville 1861, he served as city tax collector, deputy clerk and recorder, justice of the peace, city judge for over 30 years, and headed Louisiana Training Institute.
Major B A Hardy of Shreveport chief of the state minerals board will be the principal witness at a state oil production hearing by a house naval affairs subcommittee in New Orleans. Independent operators from across the state are to testify, including Laskey Lyons Harter Reynolds Metager and Atwater. The inquiry seeks to identify hindrances to production and remedies as it tours oil regions. The subcommittee favors the New Orleans Gulf ship channel project and is led by Rep L M Rivers with Rep Hebert Bates and Wheatt. Captain Robert L Graham Jr serves as special counsel.

William Hamilton Hodges aged 64 died at a Shreveport hospital after a long illness. Hodges, former conservation commissioner under Governor Sam Jones, twice declined gubernatorial runs and was active in flood control and river improvements. Survived by his widow Luella Lockwell Hodges, Hodges helped plan Louisiana State University site and served at the constitutional convention. He was born May 27, 1879, in the family home established by his grandfather.
Washington dispatch reports the War Department naming Corporal Morris G. Guess and Private Willie P. Mosiey as Louisianians killed in action in the Aleutians. Guess is listed with mother Mrs. Margaret Guess of 1126 Robert Street New Orleans. Mosiey’s mother is Mrs. L. Mosiey of Vivian Route 2 Box 4.
