White Sox turn the tide on Yankees with bold trades

Chuck Comiskey orchestrated major moves to reshape the White Sox. Key acquisitions Jim Wilson Fred Beals Dave Philley and Luis Aparicio helped end Casey Stengel's Yankee dominance by delivering an eight game winning streak the longest in the league. Larry Doby and Aparicio plus Carrasquel and Busby formed a new core fueling the surge. Philley faced fines after a dugout flare up but the club rode the momentum to a dramatic series win over New York.

Yankees miss bid as Wilson shines for White Sox

After the White Sox acquired 34 year old lefty Jim Wilson from Baltimore on May 21, he has posted six wins to improve his record to 10 3 and helped trim the Yankees lead by five games. The Yankees explored Wight Moore and Wilson last winter but balked at Orioles asking prices. Wilson, once with Milwaukee Braves, battled injuries and minor league drift before a 1954 no hit no run for the Braves, then a 12 18 mark for Baltimore in 1955. The Yankees now regret passing on Wilson as they endure weak rotation.
