Francis Thomas a 17 year old worker at Faser s drug store and Christian Faser a Monroe druggist set a remarkable swim record in North Louisiana. They swam from near Monroe municipal natatorium along the Ouachita river to the locks and dams south of Monroe in exactly three hours. They paused enough to say they could have swum five or six more miles. Accompanied by William Sorrell in a skiff they returned by boat after reaching the locks and dams. They started at 4 45 p m Friday and reached the locks at 7 p m amid swift current.

Monroe Hotel to Add 70 000 Structure in City Growth Drive
Monroe Hotel plans a 70 000 addition set to begin within days after drawings by Drago King. The three story wing will extend 40 by 164 feet from the old building, adding 50 bedrooms with baths, six sample rooms and two storerooms. The dining room will become a 600 seat convention and banquet hall with its own kitchen. An automatic sprinkler system will cover the new wing, and the hotel will undergo a radical facelift making it unrecognizable.
