Louisiana officials held a tense session with Lt. Gov. Lether Frazar as Gov. Earl K. Long faces a second legal bid to exit the Southeastern State Hospital. Officials described the mood as scared as hell while a hospital bulletin noted no significant changes in Longs condition.

Police warned the missing may still be alive and said the building and scene were chaotic as fire crews fought the blaze.
A Moscow literary source says Boris Pasternak plans to publish a new book of poems in the Soviet Union. The source notes his controversial Doctor Zhivago was not published here despite the Nobel Prize. Pasternak reportedly rejected the prize.

Dr Charles Belcher, hospital superintendent, faced a habeas corpus petition with a court order to appear in Covington at 10:00 a.m. Friday. Governor Long’s physicians offered no significant changes to his status, and the governor will be billed for hospital maintenance at ten dollars daily. The funds go to Louisiana's mental health training and research account.
Secretary of State Christian A. Herter prepares a national radio television address to outline a no retreat stand in Berlin talks with the Soviet Union. He will note six weeks of Geneva talks failed to ease tensions and will call for Allied unity in pressuring the Kremlin on West Berlin. President Eisenhower is reported to back the plan and a resumption of talks is contingent on progress.
Double funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lewis McCay will be held at Drummond Funeral Home in Little Rock at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Their children Janet and Bobby were badly injured returning to Ft. Smith after visiting Crossett relatives. State police report the crash occurred when Samuel Parks of New Edinburg tried to pass another car and collided with the McCay station wagon.
