Kingston report notes a new plan effective January 1980 as the present city administration term expires. An election in 1926 will choose seven commissioners who will appoint a city manager. A seat trained for a swim across the channel will pace the Zitenfield twins during their Albany to New York channel prep.
Special to The News-Star reports Caldwell parish upland crops are above normal despite recent heavy rainfall. Cotton acreage fell about 25 percent from last year while forage and sweet potatoes rose similarly. Peach crop near total failure. watermelons and cantaloupes just starting to appear. Bayous Castor Buccoup Herrican Creek and Bills Creek yield plenty of fish though dynamite usage is a concern. boll weevils are not a major issue this season.
Transactions record several parcels changing hands: L. J. Bovenkalman transfers lot one in block one of his Claiborne road subdivision for 135 dollars. R Downes Jr and Luther Reed sell to JOD Hamilton a lot in Hudsons Riverside addition fronting 60 feet on Fifth street and 150 feet deep for 6 600 dollars. William A Walker Jr conveys lot two in block 6 of Pargoud Place addition fronting 76 feet on Island drive and 150 feet deep for 1 900 dollars.
Baton Rouge June 23 The Louisiana Conservation Department and Louisiana State University co operate on a survey of the states clay deposits to find an timber alternative. The first bulletin covers the Shreveport area with clays in Caddo Bossier Webster DeSoto and Red River parishes and tests by Whittemore Harris and Cole. Copies available from Whittemore or the department in New Orleans or Shreveport. A north central bulletin covering Claiborne Union Morehouse Jackson Bienville Lincoln Ouachita Richland parishes will follow.
