The Eros Masonic Lodge No. 259 marked its 50th anniversary with Masons from Monroe West Monroe Chatham Calhoun and Jonesboro in attendance. Organized June 9 1904 the lodge received its charter February 7 1905 with 19 worshipful masters over five decades. Willis A Downs as first worshipful master and later district deputy grand master highlighted a lineage of members including Warren A Downs and Homer F Downs.

Complete Plans For Miss Louisiana Pageant Festivals
Lake Providence hosts the 5th annual Miss Louisiana Pageant with three performances July 2 3 4. Contestants model evening gowns swimsuits and talents at 8 p.m. each night with finals Sunday. Earl Hollowell water ski show and national outboard races also feature in the Lake Providence event lineup likely drawing large crowds. The Miss Louisiana winner will go to Miss America in Atlantic City in September. Reserved seats cost 1.50 each night.

Three Ascension Parish men fined for night hunting alligators
Carl Pitre Chocktaw and Melvin LeBlanc of Ascension Parish were each fined 25 plus court costs after being convicted of taking alligators at night with a headlight. They appeared before Justice Jewel Fife Bercegay in Gonzales. Overall, 42 convictions for fish and game law violations were reported.

Air Reserve to Open School After July 1 1954
Major Henry A. Coenen announced the 9798th Air Reserve Squadron will start a local Air Reserve school shortly after July 1 1954. The initial course is flight operations for pilots navigators and bombardiers with pay equivalent to 24 periods per year. Bandit Escapes With $500 In Liquor Store露
