State Central Meeting Called For Wednesday
Baton Rouge UPI Arthur C Watson of Natchitoches called a meeting of the state central Democratic committee for Wednesday to clarify the status of the national committeeman and committeewoman named in May. Watson is vice chairman of the state central committee. Charles A Riddle of Marksville the chairman was not aware of developments when informed by a reporter. He said he did not know what would be discussed and did not plan to attend the meeting. Watson called the meeting after a statement by the present national committeeman Camille F Gravel Jr of Alexandria that the credentials of his successor Harry V Booth of Shreveport and Mrs Alvern Davis wife of Gov Jimmie Davis might be defective. In a separate move former state Sen Willie Rainach of Homer predicted any challenge of his right to attend the national convention would precipitate a walkout of delegations from southern states. Rainach district attorney Leander Perez and former Gov Robert Kennon would be challenged as delegates to the national convention Gravel said earlier. Gravel explained the status of Mrs Davis and Booth was jeopardized by the manner in which the state committee named them.
