Taft Attacks Eisenhower on Policy in Abilene Broadcast
New York Sen. Robert Taft denounces Dwight D. Eisenhower on domestic and foreign policy during the Answer to Abilene program. Taft claims gains in delegates, criticizes New Deal Republicans, calls for budget balance in year one and a 15 percent tax cut in year two, and supports ending price controls and gradual draft elimination. He faults Eisenhower on farm policy, defense deployments, and Truman era foreign policy, while expressing confidence in his own program.
