Mrs Julia Josephine Ellis 71 widow of Lee Ellis prominent contractor died Tuesday morning at her home 104 Grayling Lane in Monroe after fifty years residence she belonged to Covenant Presbyterian church she is survived by sister Mrs Ida Bilis Monroe brother E C Bairnsfather New Orleans and many nieces and nephews funeral details pending Mulhearn Funeral Home burial in Riverview Park.

College Place Plans Nursery Building At $29,573

College Place Baptist church to obtain a permit for a solid masonry nursery on Sherrouse Avenue in Monroe. The $29,573 project, issued by City building inspector Sam Awl, will include 12 rooms as part of the church’s rapid growth in the college area.

Youth Activity Week Planned at Oak Ridge Methodist Church

Oak Ridge Methodist Church hosts a Youth Activity Week with nightly talks starting at 8:00 p.m. Speakers include Rev. Kirby Vining from Monroe and Rev. Bill Sirman from Farmerville along with Rev. Art Baker from St. Joseph. Virginia Bobbit of Coushatta, winner of the 1956 Louisiana Methodist Essay Speech Contest, will deliver her winning piece on beer. Supper is served at 7:00 p.m. in the Education building each evening.
