The Nevada Citizen publishes a labor council rebuttal naming Ralph Alsup as a convicted union leader and criticizes Westbrook Pegler for his Las Vegas visit and his later syndicate articles attacking the city and organized labor.
Four Morehouse parish youths aged 13 to 15 were arrested by Monroe detectives after attempting to open a cash box at Simmons Service Station. The boys, from Bastrop and Met Rouge, secured a master key and moved through Bastrop Sterlington and West Monroe taking items including cigars and a Coke machine box. Evidence found included cash, fishing gear, a flashlight and tools. Ouachita juvenile officer Mrs. Harris placed them in jail pending further investigation.
Tokyo reports United Nations forces clash with Communist air units over northwestern Korea in a three day air battle. U N Sabre jets damaged Mig-15s while infantry broke north Korean ridges on the eastern front. Navy ships silenced shore batteries as the fighting spread near Sonchon about 35 miles from the Manchurian border.
In response to public demand Monroe officials plan to improve the municipal zoo in Bernstein Park. Streets and parks commissioner Johnny Simmons says funds are limited but a special appropriation is being sought. The plan includes a bird division with native species supplied free by the Louisiana wildlife division, including quail crows hawks and songbirds, with legality considerations noted.
Large crowds are expected at the north Louisiana Experiment Station open house in Calhoun on Thursday and Friday. Lt Gen Troy H Middleton, newly elected president of Louisiana State University, will be the featured speaker. The event will include tours of the grounds with demonstrations on sweet corn growth, corn varieties, and turkey production, followed by a film on Bangs disease. Most of the sum covers 59 million for lower Mississippi flood control with several additional state projects. Passman credited personal advocacy and noted no efforts to modify the lower Mississippi allocation during House debates.

Prague reports say the Czech foreign ministry informed the U S embassy that Associated Press correspondent William Oatis will face trial within days on charges of hostile activities against the Czechoslovak government. Oatis, 37, was seized by three Czech agents in Prague last April.

Lake Providence Louisiana June 19 two ministers bodies recovered at 7 am by Monroe firemen and a Boy Scout. Rev Robert F Gottas 27 Alexandria Louisiana and Rev Thomas Wilson 20 Elliott City Maryland drowned when their boat capsized during a fishing trip with Rev W W Davenport who tried to save them. The rescue effort followed the capsizing on the island about 1.5 miles north of the lake. Mr Davenport exhausted could not save Gottas.
Chief M. L. Peters warned Tuesday that Monroe police will patrol areas around the municipal swimming pool after numerous calls about attempts to abduct children. He urged parents to take extra precautions and cooperate with officers on heightened duty for child safety.
Baton Rouge June 19 Proposals for tougher penalties for drug peddling and a Kefauver style crime investigation committee are before the Louisiana legislature's special session. The narcotics bill is backed by Gov Earl K Long and Rep Algie Brown of Caddo parish calls for a crime investigating panel.
An eight ounce girl born four months early was kept alive in an incubator at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Ruby Ivery delivered the infant in the office of Dr. Alfred Nadler yesterday. the baby measured nine and a quarter inches from head to toe.
