Confirmation battle blocks Long Louisiana nominees

In Washington on June 19 the dying hours of Congress saw Senator Huey P. Long block approval of several Louisiana appointments he called obnoxious. Meanwhile Louisiana women’s committee vowed to keep fighting Long and Senator Overton on corruption charges in the election, accusing Senator George of misrepresenting facts in the elections report. The Senate discharged the investigations, and Roosevelt moved to withdraw Rene A. Viesca as U S attorney and delay Daniel D. Moore’s collector nomination. Postmaster appointments for several Louisiana towns were blocked by lack of Senate approval.
