The Monroe Chamber of Commerce voted to back City Commissioners in seeking reductions to 25 cent taxation and 25 cent excess loss charges added to fire insurance premiums. Rain and Lightning Damage City Property in Monroe
A severe electrical storm hit Monroe and nearby areas last night causing limited damage and excitement. Lightning struck copper wires on a fre alarm system, delaying service and triggering a misrouted Box 51 alarm. Three streetcars were affected, two collided and a third was struck by lightning. Rainfall measured 0.20 inches over the past 24 hours, with another 0.20 inches by noon today. The Ouachita River gauge stood at 18.6 feet, falling a foot per day. Tonight and Friday forecast partly cloudy to cloudy with chances of more moisture and a need for umbrellas at ready fronts.

Sam Inzina Returns Home After Thirteen Months in Uniform
Sam Inzina, an Italian American resident of Old Monroe, completes thirteen months in the U S Army. He enlisted May 28, 1918, trained at Camp Beauregard, served in the 89th Division in France, and returned stateside May 28, landing in Hoboken. He received discharge June 14 at Camp Shelby and came home June 15.
