Boatman claims he fainted before bridge tragedy
The Rebel Jr. helmsman says he blacked out and fell against a steering lever causing the tug and barges to strike the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. The crash tore a 224 foot span, sent a bus into the water, killing six of eight aboard. Clifford Milley, 26, says he likely fainted before impact. Ned Palmer, 40, testified Milley piloted alone and was thrown from his bunk by the collision. Coast Guard inquiry adjourned after four hours.
