Air Force tests earth germs surviving Mars like conditions
Three U.S. Air Force space medicine researchers reported that microbes from Java Arizona and Texas survived near oxygenless nitrogen atmospheres at Martian temperatures from 70 to 95 degrees below zero. Under jars with minimal moisture the microbes thrived down to 1 percent water, with some lasting at 0.4 percent. Tests continue on even drier conditions.

Jackson Meridian and Louisville Boy Scouts, aided by bulldozers, plan to probe a 15 acre area while pumping out water, as legends of a witch doctor and poisoned gas inspire cautious exploration. Fraser and his daughter Ruth Weaver used walkie talkies and safety gear during the search.
