Gov. John J. McKeithen announced roughly 4 million to the 565 million general appropriations bill to fund pay raises for low wage state workers and state police and to boost college budgets to protect accreditation. The Northeast State College needs 250 thousand more for land, and Louisiana Tech would gain about 200 thousand. The plan also reduces about 100 thousand in state police positions.
