In New Orleans a federal court will determine three issues in the 15 girl spies case as state and federal judges dispute transfers. Special Judge Mark C. Pickrel ordered Col. John P. Sullivan to arraign on a confidence game charge and Sullivan seeks habeas corpus from the federal court. Judge Borah stayed state court action pending jurisdiction decision. Lorg is in Washington.
Washington June 17 The greatly circumscribed national recovery administration started functioning today as Congress moves to speed Roosevelt program. James L ONeill said it is an open question whether new legislation may be sought this session for a more positive law for the recovery agency. The Senate aims to dispose of the social security bill by mid week and the House to adjourn by mid July while pushing four major administration bills. The Guffey Snyder coal bill is urged for speedy enactment to create a little NRA for soft coal.
Judge Borah ordered a federal stay blocking state court actions in the New Orleans sewerage and water board dispute until federal jurisdiction is decided. The move follows a bankruptcy petition in state court and involves a $1.8 million loan and ongoing battles between city officials and Governor Allen allied with Huey Long.
Federal Judge Wayne G. Borah approved reorganization plans for the New Orleans Public Service Inc. enabling an extension of seven years on the maturity of 11 546 800 dollars of general obligations.
The Pan American clipper seaplane departed for Honolulu on its return to the U S mainland. After takeoff the crew closed all curtains and flew by instrument only for direction speed and altitude.

The Fifth Circuit heard the case after Judge Grubb ruled TVA lacks authority to run a profitable utility and halted certain transfers of property.
Two youths James Tucker aged 20 and Edmond Taylor 16, residents of Moody's Crossing, were killed early today east of Pen City Alabama when struck by a car driven by H C Baisden of Atlanta. Baisden's vehicle hurled their bodies over 50 feet after the victims were found asleep beside the road.
Week end storms deluge Arkansas as the Arkansas River rises again and threatens farming areas. A tornado wrecked a farm near Russellville killing Granville Gibson and injuring his father Thomas A. Gibson. Fort Smith sees river over flood stage for the seventh time this spring as eastern Oklahoma rains swell creeks and submerge Midland Arkansas.
In New Orleans on June 17 ministers condemned the resumption of large scale gambling. Protestant pastors criticized Governor O K Allen and the state administration for failing to prevent gambling promised by the administration. The issue stems from last year when Huey P. Gordon Ziegler a 40 year old Jackson parish farmer was jailed in Jonesboro on murder charges after fatally stabbing Deputy Sheriff C M Gunter 59 who died at River side sanitarium Monroe following the arrest attempt in Eros. Ziegler admitted the stabbing during transport.
Plans move forward for a large color filled Automobile Week in Monroe Louisiana to be staged on June 22 23 and 24 at the Milner Fuller Motor Co used car lot. The event by the Automobile Dealers Association with News Star World cooperation features a parade at 10 30 Saturday morning two daily show sessions and prize money totaling 100 dollars with 50 25 15 and 10 for top four prizes.

Samuel Bendel 71 native of New Orleans and longtime south Louisiana merchant died at his son Dr Walter L Bendel’s home at 6 am Sunday after a heart attack. Funeral services were held at 1200 North Third Street with Rabbi F K Hirsch. Interment set for Lafayette Tuesday at 10 am. Born March 29 1864 in New Orleans he later worked in Lake Charles and Lafayette before retirement.
Madisonville Louisiana June 17 James Everett twenty four of Covington drowned in the Tchefuncta river near here while swimming on a boating party. Everett with Robert Shaw and Miss Lillian Ray were in a skiff when they jumped overboard to swim. Everett disappeared but his body was later recovered.
Colonel John P. Sullivan an anti Huey Long figure obtained a federal writ of habeas corpus and blocked state efforts to arraign him on charges of operating a confidence game tied to real estate deals. He was placed in U S custody as the state sought an attachment and transfer to federal court was sought over due process claims.
