In Phu Yen Province an isolated South Vietnamese outpost withstood a two hour dawn assault by 500 guerrillas. The defenders reported 36 Communist dead and 30 weapons, plus six prisoners, as air strikes pounded the attackers.
Soviet Premier Kosygin will push for UN censure of Israel and withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian lands at the General Assembly emergency meeting in New York. U Thant announced the session after majority approval from member nations.
In Ohio, Victoria Thomas, a 27 year old widow, leapt into Aurora Lake to save a mother and five boys whose car slid into the water. She guided the occupants to safety from the submerged vehicle and swam them to shore, honoring a husband who sacrificed himself in Vietnam.

A union pledge not to strike if legislation goes to a House Senate conference eased fears of major disruption. Senate sponsor Morse called the move a legislative mockery.
The Associated Press conducted a six month investigation into the Warren Commission Report to present 24 000 words in Sundays Monroe Morning World. The AP findings aim to illuminate puzzling aspects of the Kennedy assassination for public consideration.
