A check raiser operating in Monroe swindled several firms, using the alias J. W. Morgan and a similar method to a Shreveport case. The Monroe Furniture Co. suffered the largest loss as a check rose from 8 to 80 dollars for furniture worth about 40 dollars, drawn on the State National Bank of Jackson, Mississippi, via the New Orleans National Bank. Morgan bought goods under a fictitious name and shipped them to Girard, receiving about 40 dollars in cash in return.
Mr J M Keller and Mrs Keller and Mrs N B K Conner with Mr and Mrs F D LeSeur depart Monroe for Alexandria where Keller will enter brokerage. He is a longtime resident of Monroe, organizer and first president of the Monroe Progressive League, former Police Jury member, and city councilor.

Eureka Cal June 16 All of the 210 passengers and crew of the wrecked steamer Bear have been accounted for according to the Purser. The total death list is placed at five.
George Wesley Smith of New Orleans is visiting Monroe today, stopping by local sites and meeting residents. He plans to return home after his short stay in the city.
The Monroe Gun Club announces its annual registered shoot will be held June 22 and 23. President J T Austin cites about seventy five entrants from across the nation, including a dozen professionals. Thirty five merchandise prizes page the June 22 prelims, with added money to purses for the registered shoot on the following day. Visitors can expect usual entertainment during their Monroe stay.
The Picture Garden opened last night with three reels of substitute pictures due to late arrivals. Two new machines in Monroe provided a clear steady picture drawing favorable remarks. A double bill will run tonight featuring the highly touted submarine picture without any extra charge.
St Louis June 16. The Democratic convention renominated Wilson and Marshall by acclamation at midnight and adopted a platform with an Americanism plank condemning foreign influence, endorsing suffrage for states, a merchant marine, roads, and conservation. The Mexican plank supports U S intervention until order is restored, while pledging neutrality in the current war and joint efforts for world peace.

Baton Rouge June 16 A proposed bill by T Sambda Jones aims to regulate labor unions and restrict injunctions in employment disputes. It would allow actions to protect labor conditions while preserving worker rights as personal, not property, rights, with exceptions only to prevent irreparable property harm and to describe such property precisely. The measure preserves workers' rights to organize, strike, and communicate while limiting court powers in labor disputes.
